"It was after a holiday in Italy that I decided to seek some nutritional help. I had put on weight gradually in the last two years and I wanted to do something about it, but more desperately I wanted to stop being so consumed by what I ate and mentally beating myself up for making the 'wrong' choices.
I can't put my finger on what Kate did but since our first session in May 2008 I was instantly more relaxed about food. The combination of taking the time out of my busy life to address something that was troubling me and Kate's relaxed understanding manner meant making small changes to my diet wasn't at all an upheaval and didn't feel anything like a diet!!
The most important lesson I have learnt with Kate is to be conscious of the food choices I am making. I work in an office where chocolates and cakes are in abundance, but I have learnt to ask myself whether they will provide my body with anything and if I do really want them. An effect of this is that I no longer berate myself for eating the occasional carrot cake or chocolate fondant, because I have made the conscious decision to have it and enjoy it!
As Kate always reminded me, her advice is for life and although I can already see results (but will not be weighing myself!!) I know there will be times it may all fall apart, but if/when it does I know Kate is a call away.

"When I first met Kate I was someone who loved junk food and HATED anything healthy. I knew about the dangers of eating all those high fat, high sugar foods, I hated how my eating habits affected the way I looked and felt, but still I couldn’t stop eating them. That’s why I was pleasantly shocked after my first meeting with Kate. I felt as if my brain had been re-programmed and all those types of food I would have found boring and tasteless before (vegetables, simply cooked food and wheat free bread) started tasting amazing now. It sounds spooky, and it kind of was! "Being on the Dump the Diet course wasn't about losing weight! When I first visited Kate I was very emotional and extremely confused by what I was reading and hearing day in, day out about weight loss. Being a full time dance student my life is all about my image. Reading about celebrities, being skinny or overweight with all sorts of disorders and all the latest diets was driving me crazy. Who do I listen to? Which diet do I try? How skinny should I be? So I decided I needed to speak to a professional, someone who wasn't in the industry. I began seeing Kate every other week to sit and talk about food, shopping, eating out, alcohol and me! "I went to see Kate as I had been "feeling fat" for months and was really body conscious. Also I had been anaemic for two years on and off and just felt a bit lost and bewildered in what to eat, when to eat it to be healthy and how to wean myself off eating chocolate every time I thought I needed a reward/treat/pick me up!
Kate provided an open, relaxed environment where I could talk about food and eating honestly. This helped to stop the whirring round in my head that used to make each decision about food or a snack a mental two minute debate of "should I/shouldn't I", which was immediately followed by guilt etc.
Through talking with Kate and looking carefully at what I ate, I realised I was yo-yoing - trying to eat salads at meals, but getting hungry in between time and snacking on chocolate etc. I never lost weight despite never eating a proper meal, but more importantly I wasn't getting the proper vitamins and food groups for a happy, healthy life! I realised I had got myself into a very unhealthy and unhappy relationship with food. Not anymore!
Kate is fun (foremost), professional, and "gets it"! It was so easy to sit and talk about food, the emotional importance I'd put on food, shopping, eating out, blow-outs, chocolate and me!
I used to get on the scales everyday to see if I'd lost or gained a pound or not. I've not weighed myself in four weeks now (I will do in a few weeks, but not everyday, or even every week anymore!). I spend the time I used to worry about food, focused on work, friends and having fun, and 'rewards/treats' now come in the form of Chanel nail varnishes, trips to the Wallace Collection, or just a walk around the block in daylight - not chocolate!
I'm eating so many different types of food now - and whilst I'm still no 'cook', I have a range of stir frys, meats and veg that I can 'assemble' together in the evening and I actually enjoy it! The secret for me is just being a little bit more prepared - it's like anything in life!

"Kate helped me see to see that the last thing I needed was yet another "diet" or set of rigid rules to follow. We spent time discussing the reasons for my emotional/comfort eating and I gradually began to realise that what Kate was doing was helping to free me from a lifetime of searching for THE diet that would make me thin and happy. She helped me to see that it was all about the choices I was making and that there is no "bad" or "good", that I could eat a croissant for breakfast without feeling guilty and bingeing for the rest of the day because I'd been "bad". She helped me to realise that I was striving for absolute perfection in my diet, and when I couldn't achieve it, my sense of failure was triggering the binges.
Kate gradually helped me to achieve more balance in my eating behaviour. One of the achievements I made with Kate's help was to break a 10 year habit of having a huge Indian takeaway on Friday night with my husband, which was often the trigger for a weekend of being excessively unhealthy. I would sometimes binge on crisps and chocolate on Friday afternoon because it was curry night, so I might as well make the most of it. Now my husband and I prepare a special meal on Friday night, something we might only have cooked before if we were having people over for dinner, but taking time to select the best ingredients and making it a real treat. After my final session with Kate, I felt that for the first time in many years I wasn't afraid of food and could relax about it for the first time in years"

"Growing up in a Chinese community where everyone is so tiny had always made me feel like the fat and the ugly one. My mum is a size six and so is my sister! Even my dad is lighter than me! Having gained a few kilos in university, I went home for my first holiday and saw the horror on their faces when I arrived at the airport - they couldn't even recognise me!
